Important Information Regarding
Club Trips and Events

The link to our Schedule of Events page is at the bottom of this page.  If this is your first visit (or first in a month or more) to our website; please read this page and indicate that you have done so to proceed to the Schedule of Events.  Please note that information on this page may be updated / changed without notice.

All North Vancouver Outdoors Club (NVOC) trips meet at Harry Jerome (formerly Lonsdale) Rec Centre Parking—near the Centennial Theatre-lot unless otherwise noted (east of Lonsdale and north of 23rd Street behind the theatre).

The trip leader/coordinator will determine the start time.  Participants are requested to arrive a minimum of five minutes early to assist in car pool planning.  Non-members may be denied participation if coordinator was not contacted prior to event.  Although it is rare, there are occasions when there are not enough vehicles for the number of trip participants.  On these occasions, NVOC club members are given priority.    Please be prepared to drive.

Participants must be properly equipped. For day hikes, items to bring include at minimum: a warm synthetic fleece or wool sweater, warm hat, mittens or gloves, rain gear (top and bottom), sun hat, sun screen, sun glasses, broken-in hiking boots (well water proofed!), gaiters, at least 1 litre of water in an unbreakable container, lunch with extra food and snacks, personal first aid kit ( participants are responsible for their own medications or medications they may require [such as ANA kits] ), toilet tissue, money, along with a day pack.  For backpack trips, please contact the coordinator regarding equipment (etc.) to bring.  Be prepared for changes in weather.

For bicycle trips, bicycles must be in good working order and please have at least: helmet, warm synthetic fleece or wool sweater, warm hat, mittens or gloves, rain gear, sun screen, sun glasses, at least 1 litre of water in an unbreakable container, lunch with extra food and snacks, personal first aid kit ( participants are responsible for their own medications or medications they may require [such as ANA kits] ), toilet tissue and money.  Be prepared for changes in weather.

It is also strongly recommended that cotton clothing (such as blue jeans or t-shirts) be avoided as they offer little or no insulation when wet.  Bringing these minimum items along will make the trip much more pleasant for you and others should the weather turn for the worse.  ( Of course, being fit helps too!  Why not take part in a Wednesday Capilano Pacific Power Walk or the Wednesday Evening Grind? )

If in the opinion of the trip co-ordinator, a participant is ill equipped / unfit  for the trip or event; their participation may be denied.

The outings are adult oriented and not suitable for children under the age of 16 years (unless noted otherwise). In consideration of other participants you are requested not to bring pets (dogs) on the trips.

Trip coordinators are volunteers. Generally they are familiar with the trails, but occasionally new areas are explored. All coordinators have had previous experience in the out of doors. Participants should realize that every trip has an element of risk and it is necessary to consult with the coordinator prior to the trip to ascertain what the level of risk will be. The trips are planned at a monthly meeting. Participants are encouraged to attend these meetings.

Please remember to bring clean street shoes  for using during carpools to activity locations and have your hiking boots (or ski boots, etc.) in a plastic bag for storage during transport.  Transportation on most trips is by car pool and costs are shared.  The suggested minimum rate to each passenger in car pools is $7.00 per passenger per hour (or part hour).  Be prepared to share in costs of transportation etc. (i.e. day use vehicle parking fees).

All participants are required to sign in at the beginning of each trip & (by doing so) acknowledge that they accept the risks involved.

Out of province health insurance is strongly recommended for trips to the USA. Participants are responsible for their own medications or medications they may require (i.e. ANA kits)

The North Vancouver Outdoors Club is affiliated with the Federation of Mountain Clubs of British Columbia (FMCBC).  We are supported by the North Vancouver Recreation Commission.
