Sanctuary Coffee Break by Michele
Craig writes:-
Leaving from the front of Waterfront Station in Vancouver, eight riders set out under cloudy skies. Our goal was to traverse the infamous Crab Apple Ridge in Richmond via the less taken north to south route. Firstly however a multitude of downtown bike lane closures had to navigated.
Once successfully clear of the aforementioned obstacles, it was a relatively smooth run through Vancouver, over the mighty Fraser River and into Richmond. Before long we were at the start of the ridge and steeled ourselves for the traverse to come. Luckily the weather remained just cloudy which aided our navigator as he guided us through the twists and turns of the ridge. Once successfully completed we continued through Steveston to the aptly named Sanctuary Cafe, where a well earned rest was taken.
Sufficiently nourished our group continued along the dyke, until a northwards turn onto the Shell Road trail signalled the start of our journey home. A brief pause was taken to immerse ourselves in a group member’s family history, and another to admire some splendid cherry blossoms, before heading back to Vancouver.
Approx. 65km of cycling and a good time had by all. See the route here from Iain’s Garmin 1040 Solar
There are plenty more photos in the Trip Photo Gallery so do check them out.
