Chief 2nd and 3rd Peaks Hike, April 23rd 2025

Second peak view, looking down at first peak by Sheila

My original Chief 2nd and 3rd peaks hike was planned for April 26th, however the forecast was for rain that weekend and this is not a hike you do in the rain, so I changed the hike to April 23rd. As luck would have it, the weatherman changed the forecast to sun for the 26th. What can you do?

The Wednesday ended up being a perfect hiking day and 6 out of 12 hikers were able to make it. After 10 minutes of walking on the flat through the walk-in campsites it was all up hill after this. Stairs and large steps made out of piled up rocks. We hiked past the turn off for the 1st peak and headed straight up to the 2nd peak, passing a couple of very nice viewpoints which were perfect for stopping to catch our breath and rest our legs. After a ladder and a couple of chains we had a snack break on top of the 2nd peak which offered up a great view of the 1st peak and town of Squamish. Following a short downhill with a bit of a scramble down some rocks and roots, we headed up to the 3rd peak, where we had a leisurely lunch and an even better view of the surrounding peaks, plus a view of a few Paragliders. Retracing our steps down from the 3rd peak we made a loop trail by going down a gully to where it intersects with the original uphill trail. After quite a while maneuvering the large boulders and fallen trees on the way down the gully our knees were thankful to reach the stairs.

A great day with a wonderful group of hikers. My apologies to the others who wanted to hike on the Saturday.
