Garibaldi Lake Midweek Escape

Falling Waters by Glenn

Five hardy members set out for a midweek adventure to Garibaldi Lake, cleverly avoiding the weekend parking pass scramble by choosing a quiet weekday for our outing. With clouds and light showers in the forecast, we packed our rain gear, crossed our fingers, and hoped the weather gods would be kind.

The trail greeted us with a steady series of switchbacks, winding gently uphill through classic coastal forest. While mostly snow-free, there were a few wet patches to keep us humble (and our boots muddy). We even passed some friendly BC Parks staff doing trail maintenance—cheers to them for keeping the path in great shape!

As we neared Taylor Meadows, the mist rolled in, adding a bit of mystery to the scenery. Fortunately, just as the skies decided to really open up, we found ourselves comfortably sheltered beside the lake. Nothing like a dry roof and a beautiful turquoise view to enjoy our lunch in style. We encountered several couples from the US, and many young people planning to camp overnight.

After a good break and a view of the incredible rocky barrier from a landslide, we made our way back down. The entire trip took about seven hours to cover the 21 km route, including time for lunch and breaks.

All in all, a satisfying day: good company, manageable weather, and views of one of the most stunning lakes in the province. Not bad for a Thursday break!
