May 17th Sea to Summit hike
Sheila writes:-
As the forecast was for rain I was close to cancelling this hike, but glad I didn’t. As seven hikers left the North Shore bright and early the rain was pretty heavy, but by the time we started the hike there was just a gentle off and on sprinkle which continued for the rest of the hike.
We hiked the regular route, not the challenging route, as that would have meant a section of rock scrambling. There were a few chains involved which helped on the steeper parts and not many other hikers on the trail.
Once we reached the top we had lunch inside as there was a drizzle of rain. We were hoping the mist would lift as 3 of the hikers had never been there before and the views are spectacular. On the gondola ride done we did manage a glimpse of the Chief.
Our youngest member from Austria, on a student exchange for the summer, bought a replica of the gondola , designed in Austria, as a souvenir.
Thanks to those who braved the weather.
