Misty View Across the lake by Sheila

Since the trails were still closed in the Lynn Headwaters Backcountry I went with my “plan B” hike to Deeks Lake instead of Goat Ridge. Thanks for the suggestion Martina!  Five out of the nine hikers were game for this, so we set out early at 7am to beat the heat and hopefully find a parking spot at the trailhead. As luck would have it there were two spots left when we arrived.

The weather cooperated and we had a great hike to the lake, passing two waterfalls and meeting a hiker from Steveston who carried an axe with him to help clear the trails of fallen trees. One fallen tree took him 2 hours of chipping away before the path was cleared. We were quite humbled and in awe of him.

We had a leisurely lunch on the rocks by the lake then back tracked and walked around the lake to a beach area to have a look around. On the walk back I saw the rear end of a decent sized black bear that didn’t seem to enthused to meet and greet us on the trail.

The hike was 3 hours up and 2 ½ hours down plus lunch and stops for snacks and photos. A total of 7 hours in all, 16km RT with an EG of 1030m.
