Mount Killam, July 5th 2025

Craig writes:-

Ten hearty souls arose early on Saturday July 5th to make their way to Horseshoe Bay to catch the 0730 ferry to Langdale.  There were introductions all round, as there were 3 guests in our group, and we were soon transferring to the 0820 ferry to Gambier, everyone with their $7.55 in cash ready to pay the fare. After an extremely pleasant 10 minutes on the water we were disembarking at Gambier and heading up the road to the trailhead, which provided the opportunity to meet George, a local resident and artist, who was completing a rather stunning piece of art.

Part way there we were met by Margo, who likely didn’t need to get up so early as she was staying on Gambier.  The plan was to take the Maple trail to the Mt. Killam trail, and then up to the bluffs just before the peak. Which is what we did, but that would be selling short the absolutely lovely trail.

There were ghost flowers, snapdragons and lots of deep moss. The view from the bluffs was well worth the effort to get there.

On return we decided to follow the same trail down, which gave us the opportunity to see Margo’s cabin, and for a few brave souls, a chance for a quick swim. Returning to Horseshoe Bay we decided on a ferry dinner rather than go out in the village.

Many thanks to all those that ventured out, and to Margo for the hospitality and the shuttle service.

Approx. 6hr and 15 minutes on the trail (including a healthy lunch break). 726 m elevation and 12 kms.

Here is the route from Iain’s GARMIN GPSMAP67i and there are more photos, from Brian, here as well as photos from others below.
