Pumpkin Hike

Nearly Everyone by Margo

Rob writes:-

Fifteen of our club members got together for a fun food and beverage related social get-together on October 26th, and collectively answered the question that Rob threw out to the membership, namely: “Some people think the "pumpkin spice everything" trend has gone too far...... But has it?..... How many food items can we come up with??”

The social event also embodied our tongue-in-cheek “motto” that “we are an eating club that sometimes likes to hike”!  This annual event IS mostly about the food and beverages, although it is usually accompanied by a walk or hike to allow all who attend a chance to enjoy the great outdoors.

Since this event was at the end of October, the hike was intentionally a short one up the lower part of Hollyburn Mountain to the Nordic skiing "warming hut".  On October 26 the weather was cool and foggy, with a touch of new snow on the ground from the previous night.  Most of the hikers walked up for 20 minutes past the hut for more exercise and fresh air, then returned to enjoy the lunch feast.

This year’s offerings by our members were not a disappointment, and were thoroughly enjoyed and commented on by all.  Thanks to everyone!  To give the reader an idea of the feast; a few of the pumpkin and Halloween-inspired goodies brought up were: pumpkin soup, pumpkin spice chicken wings, Peruvian stew served in a pumpkin(!), savory pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin squares, pumpkin hummus, pumpkin dip, ghost-decorated squares, and several types of pumpkin ale.  Accompanying photos will give an idea of the huge food and beverage cornucopia that was produced.  As usual there was too much food so we brought back some to enjoy later. Thanks to everyone for everything you brought!
