Five members & two lovely guests headed out at 7ish to spike Joffre Lakes trail on Saturday, November 15th. Different weather apps forecasted all types of temperatures & conditions.
There were a handful of cars in the lot when we arrived. We began just after 10 a.m.
Skies were overcast with good views of the beautiful mountains and lakes. Clouds moved in and out.
We crashed a couple’s engagement pictures at the first lake.
After about 20 minutes, spikes were put on as conditions got icy. We took mini breaks for wardrobe changes until we got to the lovely waterfall.
We continued on towards the campground and stopped for lunch at noonish.
There were 2 small groups heading up the ridge towards the glacier. We’ll leave that for the summer if we ever secure passes!
On our return, we encountered many groups going up, with variety of footwear - spikes, boots, running shoes.
It began to rain as we neared the parking lot. According to AllTrails, our moving time was 4 hrs to hike 10.5 km, with an elevation of 545 m.
1 car headed back & the others spent a fun eve indulging in Italian fare in Whistler.
Definitely worth it to do this trail in the winter!
